PREAMBLE

In a society founded on respect for the rule of law the lawyer fulfils a special role. His duty is not limited only to the faithful performance of what he is instructed to do by the law. In the defense of the rights and legitimate interests of his clients the lawyer must serve the interests of justice.

The mission of a lawyer is to protect fundamental human rights and realize social justice. To attain this mission, lawyer is granted freedom and independence in his or her duties, and is guaranteed a high degree of autonomy.

Principles:

·         Encourage respect for the law and the administration of justice;

·         Observe rules governing privileged communications and confidential information;;

·         Promote and exemplify high standards of loyalty, cooperation, and courtesy;

·         Perform all duties of the profession with integrity and competence;

·         Pursue a high order of professional attainment

Moral obligations towards:

a. the client;

b. the courts and other authorities before whom the lawyer defends the client’s interests;

c. the legal profession in general and each fellow member of it in particular; and

d. the public for whom the existence of a free, independent and self-governing profession, bound together by respect for rules made by the profession itself, is an essential means of safeguarding human rights in face of the power of the state and other interests in society.
